Head of Church of Scotland Right Reverend David Lunarnflies to Malawi on April4 to grace 150th anniversary of ancient explorer scottish David Livingstone to be attended by President Bingu wa Mutharika in Blantyre.
Communication officer for Blantyre Synod of the Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Reverend Paul Mawaya who is a member of Main Organizing committee disclosed this in a written statement to this reporter responding to a questionnaire about the event.
He said Lunarn is coming in a company of four others namely his wife Margaret, Rev. Professor Ken Ross, Rev. Ayleen Robson and Mrs. Margaret MacIntosh.
“They are coming to attend to attend the national commemoration of Dr. David Livingstone’s 150 years on 11th April, 2009 at Kamuzu Stadium,” he said.
“Being the Moderator of the Church of Scotland, he is the highest authority in CCAP synods,” he said.
The general synod is also expected to meet leadership of the General Synod of the Church headquartered in Area18in Lilongwe, visit a number of projects in Blantyre,Nkhoma and Livingstonia synods.
“In Blantyre Synod they will meet church leaders, visit historical places around Blantyre, and attend church services at St. Columba as well as Namadzi in Zomba.
“They will visit orphan care project by Blantyre Synod Development Commission, a rural project and attend a clergy and lay leaders symposium at Blantyre Mission,” he said.
At Nkhoma they will meet church leaders, local Christians they will meet local leaders, visit Nkhoma hospital, safe motherhood programme and meet Christian Aids Coordinator.
In Mzuzu they will meet leaders, local Christians and inspect mission area, visit food security as well as clean water micro-credit project at Euthini.
Meanwhile Blantyre Synod and the main organizing committee have produced a cloth special for the Livingstone memorial. The synod has since sent messages to its member churches to allow Christians who can afford to attend the event come in large numbers to welcome Lunarn.
St Columba Session Clerk Olive Chikhula in a separate interview at her office at Blantyre Synod on Wednesday said all the churches under St. Columba have been asked to flock to the mother church to welcome Lunarn.
“Reverend Lunarn is not an ordinary visitor, he is like our Pope,” said Chikhula.
The delegation is expected to leave for home on April15, 2008.
