Media reports in the southern African country said the country will celebrate 150 years since Livingstone first came to Malawi which will be under the theme “Gospel, Peace, Freedom and Fair Trade.”

The Daily Times of Malawi said the celebration set to be attended by president Bingu Wa Mutharika will be hosted by Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) which in the country is made up of Nkhoma Synod, Livingstonia and Blantyre Synod.

The report quoted chairperson of the organising committee Lawrence Chaluluka as saying Livingstone contributed to various aspects of life in Malawi.

According to the report, Livingstonia synod was named after him while the country’s commercial city of Blantyre, was named after the city in which he was born in Scotland in 1813.
