Malawi: WB gives $140m for school blocks

    The World Bank signed a $140 million loan deal with Malawi to build 5,000 classroom blocks and to address the low pupil-teacher ratio which stands at 88:1.
    Malawi can save children from malnutrition
    Malawi minister of finance Ken Kandodo said the loan will assist the country towards achieving the Education for all by 2015.

    “This will enable children who were not getting in good environment to achieve their dreams. We hope that by the end of the five years, Malawi will not be the same in education sector,” he said

    World Bank country manager Sandra Bloememkamp said the loan will be distributed for a period of five years.

    Bloememkamp added: “We are happy as World Bank to be involved in the education sector in Malawi, which dates back to 1967.”
