Malawi: Madonna tipped for child rights award

    As rumor and speculation grows that Pop star Madonna is jetting into Malawi for the second time this year, there are strong indications that the star will meet the country's state president Dr Bingu Wa Mutharika who is expected to confer on her an award on the protection of children's rights.

    An Africa news source in Lilongwe said on Monday the pop star is expected in the country any day from Thursday and will among some fulfillments launch her projects under the raising Malawi initiative.

    The source said the material girl is among other engagements expected to meet the country’s head of state Dr Bingu Wa Mutharika who is to confer her an award for her role in the promotion of the rights of Malawian children.

    Madonna adopted two children from Malawi amidst heavy criticism from the civil society, but the Malawi government has been supporting her adoptions.

    Another rumor taking turns in the country is points that the pop star intends to spend much of the time in the country following her purchase of a villa in the lakeshore district of Salima.

    It is expected among other engagements that the material girl will visit her projects at Queen Elizabeth central hospital in Blantyre and open her girls academy under the raising Malawi initiative.
