Malawi:Love stories in the time of AIDS TV series launnced


  1. As HIV and AIDS continues to be the major development concern in the Sub-Saharan Africa region, Pakachere institute of Health and Development Communication in Malawi has joined other southern African development communication institutes by launching a television drama series portraying the trends of multiple concurrent sex partnerships which is the main driver of HIV transmission in the Sub-Saharan Africa.
    The television series dubbed ‘Love stories’ is part of the soul city institute project that is being carried in the whole SADC region to mitigate on the impact of multiple concurrent sexual partnerships in the response to HIV and AIDS.
    Pakachere institute media relations officer Grace Kumwenda said in Blantyre the launch that will take place at Blantyre’s Mount Soche Hotel Thursday, will also coincide with the launch of a music video compilation of ‘Love stories’ in the time of HIV and AIDS.
    She said the event will attract the participation of all players in the response to HIV and AIDS in Malawi including people that are positively living with HIV.
    Kumwenda said that the love stories initiative was receiving a very positive response in Malawi as many people positively living with HIV wanted to share their own stories.
    She said over 200 HIV and Aids activists are expected to witness the launch of the love stories television series project.
    Malawi has close to 1 million people living with HIV of which the majority is in the age block 15 to 49.
    Recent research findings point at multiple concurrent sexual partnerships as the chore driver of new infections.
    Principal Secretary in the Malawi Office of the President and Cabinet responsible for HIV and AIDS Dr Mary Shawa said in an interview there was need for communicators to use innovative communication approaches in the response to the pandemic.
    She was optimistic that the Love stories in the time of HIV television drama series would have a positive impact in the response to HIV and AIDS.
