Malawi.Britishswimmerback on lake Malawi

    British swimmer Abigail Brown will attempt for the second time to become the first female to swim across the lake Malawi today.

    Brown failed in her first attempt in May this year when strongly easterly waves drifted her off course after she had already discovered three quarters of the distance.
    During that adventure Brown was drifted off course covering 35km instead of 25 km . She covered the long distance in 12 hours and 40 minutes before aborting the mission due to darkness. Unofficial records shows that only two South Africans Lewis Pugh and Otto Thaning who swam across lake Malawi’s narrowest point in 1992.
    Brown who has been camping along lake Malawi for the past five days says she is determined to achieve her goal.
    “The weather has been fine recently and onus is now on me to achieve what I have been looking for” she said.
    The British swimmer said she has put in place different mechanisms to ensure she completes the mission.
    She added “This time around I will have three boats with two going a head to monitor the currents while the third one is for my support. One of the leading boats will have GPS satellite to monitor the direction so that we maintain stay on course”.
    This time the British swimmer has received a psychological boost after her parents arrived in the country to offer moral support.

    Brown who has never swam competitively ,used the first adventure to fundraise for chembe Village developmental project.
    She managed to raise 10 ,000 pounds for micro loan foundation and 2 000 pounds .
