Libya: 1000 graduates to undergo petroleum training

    Libya will begin on December 5 a training programme aimed at making 1,000 Libyan graduates specialists in Petroleum Engineering, according to a statement released by the Human Resources Department of the Libyan National Oil Company (NOC) and published by PANA on Thursday.
    Libya to back Tunisia in refinery project
    The 12-week training programme would be supervised by foreign oil companies located in Libya under an agreement on petroleum exploration and production they signed with Libya.

    Activities will include training and capacity building for the new graduates following manpower demands in the industry, the statement said.

    More than 2000 new graduates have already been recruited by the Libya government as part of a strategy to create more jobs and shun foreign labour. The graduates are now working with various oil companies.

    A similar training programme is also being planned in collaboration with the Libyan Academy for Advanced Studies for new graduates in the areas of accounting, economics and insurance.

    More than 4,900 oil sector jobs have been created for Libyans since the authorities signed an agreement with the country’s 27 oil companies to train indigenous students.

    Libya produces between 1.3 and 1.7 million barrels of oil per day.
