South Africa based winger, Anthony Laffor has been awarded the captaincy of the senior national team of Liberia by Coach Batarlan Bicskei. Bicskei is keen on putting up a delightful outing come the 5 September when Liberia hosts Zimbabwe in the opener of a campaign to a long journey to the 2012 Africa Cup of nations finals.

“I am personally happy with him [Laffor] because he is a very good man and excellent football player”, coach Bicskei said following Laffor’s brilliant game against a select Asian based stars in which the lanky forward netted a brace to confirm a 3-2 defeat of the latter side.
Laffor said he is elated and honoured to be handed the captain band; “it’s good, I need to work hard for it. But there are challenges also in being a captain, discipline counts as well”.
He said with discipline “I will make it as captain of the national team”. The Super Sport United forward noted that with discipline he can ably lead his colleagues to success. Laffor admitted he was shaken with the appointment; nevertheless, Laffor said he is prepared for it but not obsessed over the handover. He said he does not necessarily have to be a captain to make a possible impact on team.
Anthony Laffor is a former captain of top notch club Jomo Cosmos of South Africa, the club he left for Super Sport United. He said he will use his experience to execute his new responsibility.
He said the assignment has begun changing his usual attitudes to adjust himself in the post. “For instance you know I don’t normally talk much but with this task I have started doing some talking, especially in providing motivation to my colleagues”.
Laffor, 25, is among ten recalled by coach Bicskei for the rehearsal matches at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia. He was handed the portfolio Wednesday before leading a foreign based side against a local based collection which his side won by 1-0, courtesy of Patrick Doeplah of Israel side Hopoel Kfar Saba.
Laffor has joined the many voices calling on fans and foes to give the national coach breathing space to do his job. He said it is time for Liberia to join others at the next Nations cup finals. “We have enough talents in Liberia but we all need to give coach Bicskei a chance to prepare the team for the mammoth task of returning to the Nations cup since 2002”.
Other players recalled for trial out show are athletic central back Alex Karmo of western Stima of Kenya, goalie Melvin King of Ashanti Gold of Ghana, Omega Roberts of Mali side Club Olympique de Bamako, George Baysah also of Hopoel Kfar Saba of Israel, Ben Teekloh of Astra Ploesti of Romania, David Gbemie formerly of Bolton Wanderers, Dioh Williams of AGF Aarhus of Denmark and Amadiya Rennie of Sweden side Elfsborg.
