Past Liberia Football Association (LFA) elections have been dominated by a catchphrase - "continuity". The cliché was even much overriding in the immediate past election of the football house.
The coined terminology means carrying forward incumbent LFA presidents (not the entire leadership) into renewed tenure of responsibility, at any length and span, disregarding precedence.
Mirroring the current presidency of the LFA, one is obliged to effort much begging quarries as to the need for continuity or interruption in leadership come the pending LFA elections. I opt for the latter!
Steadiness, permanence, stability, solidity, calmness and evenness, are but a few synonyms or similar connotations or implications similar to the idea expressed by the lingo “continuity”. Sure, calmness at the level of a given leadership needs continuity in the broadest and truest sense of the word. So is stability, evenness or solidity.
But words spoken are not necessarily words indeed; this begs a debate on realism or pragmatism, say what is actually unfolding at the level of the LFA since a decade now. Again, if I may ask, what is on hand at the LFA to continue? Discrepancies!
Let’s face it: why, for goodness sake, we football lovers and stakeholders elect to continue with a flaw-ridden presidency that has got grossly immune to constructive criticism and checkmating? I mean, the arrogance and shared indiscipline that engulfed the LFA should not be awarded a share of our football cake. Not even incompetency and imprudence; not at the pending elections.
Our youths deserve better programs as FIFA also wishes evidenced by their financial support to the LFA. We have sat on the fence and watch football go down the path of decadency for far too long. But it is said: never too late to act or better late than never.
We really don’t need “continuity” in the midst of financial bad taste and lack of decorum. It has only bred disrespect for financial probity. Think this over and again. The belated congress is in the corner. Let’s hope it sets the basis for renaissance come election next year, for the LFA needs interruption of the self-seeking and egotistic “continuity” philosophy.
