IEBC chairman Isaac Ahmed Hassan urged members of the public to be wary of propagandas by a section of politicians who are out to create confusion over the election date. He also called upon the government for support to enable the conduct a fair and transparent election come 2013.

“We are ready for the exercise and those plotting to postpone the election are day dreaming,” he said adding that the March date still stand and Kenyans will vote come the day.

At the same time, Hassan appealed for political goodwill especially from politicians for a smooth exercise to avoid the repeat of 2007/2008 incident that saw over 1,000 people killed and thousands displaced.

“We will not be used as scapegoats by some politicians just to ensure election date is pushed to August 2013,” said Hassan.

The chairman further challenged the Members of the Parliament to move quickly and pass the Electoral Regulations Bill that is still pending before the house.

He added that the electoral body will commence Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) in a month’s time saying that BVR materials are due to come by end of September following the agreement between the Canada and Kenya governments.

Hassan revealed that the civic education is set to kick off immediately after the voter registration and verification from the constituency to national level to equip voters with the Election Act.

Addressing the press ahead of General Election preparation in Nairobi, he said Kenyans are not ready for another Post Election Violence urging leaders to campaign for peaceful election.

However, Hassan warned politicians to trade carefully as they undertake their campaigns saying that election Act will deal firmly with those that shall disobey the laws.
