Various western countries including the US, Canada, Australia, the UK and Switzerland have already announced their intention to impose travel bans.
In the meantime, the Kofi Annan-led mediation team is expected to announce a major break through in the on-going talks. The talks were moved to an unknown venue after Annan accused the media of subjecting the process to public opinion and pre-empting the out come.
Kenyans continue to express their fear and uncertainty that the talks might stale due to the hard line approach exhibited politicians from both the PNU and ODM sides. On Tuesday, Justice minister Martha Karua wrote a protest letter to Annan accusing him of misinforming members of parliament that the Government and the opposition had reached an agreement to form a interim coalition Government and pave way for fresh presidential election after two years.
This has rubbed the mediation team against the Government. Analysts fear that the talks might fail to yield results due to the hardliners who are pushing a different agenda. PNU has insisted that the opposition should remain in the opposition side while ODM has called for a coalition crafted from the proposed 'Bomas Draft Constitution' that allows for the creation of the position of an executive Prime Minister.
The US and the European Union has warned that it will take tough measures against anyone who sabotages the talks. The United Kingdom has also clarified that it does not recognize the Kenyan Government as presently constituted.
