Kenya stages mock Obama swearing-in

    Two renowned comedians in Kenya will be staging a mock swearing-in ceremony of US President-elect Barack Obama alongside the main event on Tuesday. The Kisumu city entertainers conducted a mock US election held last November 4 and attracted huge crowd.

    Today’s event to be held at Kisumu’s Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground is expected to attract a huge crowd who will be witnessing the Washington DC inauguration ceremony in the Lake side City. They have themed their activity: “A democratic and peaceful political change can effectively thrive in a diverse ethnicity and lessons learned from the American Elections.”

    “Kisumu residents and the world at large had great expectations about this event and there is no way we would have traveled abroad without organizing it,” said Oyange also a radio station presenter in reaction to rumours that they had been billed to travel to the US. He added that they have been sponsored to travel to the US and stage a show in April before meeting President Obama.

    The duo, Lawrence Oyange, 24 and Milton Obote, 23 of the Big Tyme Comedy came to the world’s limelight when they successfully conducted the mock election in Kisumu City, as the official polls were being held in the US to elect the country’s 44th tenant of the White House.

    In their mock polls, the then Democratic Presidential Candidate, Obama emerged the winner with a landslide victory after garnering 462 votes, trouncing his closest challenger for the top seat Senator John McCain of Arizona who managed 26 votes.
