Odinga earlier rejected this first step by Kibaki saying Kibaki presidency is illegal.

Kibaki made a statement saying he is "ready to form a government of national unity that would not only unite Kenyans but would also help in the healing and reconciliation process".

Kibaki said so, after he met with  top US diplomat on Africa, Jendayi Frazer.

President Kibaki and South African Anglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu met on Friday. Tutu hinted on a positive outcome of the negotiations.  Tutu also talked to ODM leader Raila Odinga.
