The Kenya Red Cross society has warned that the humanitarian crisis in Kenya is likely to worsen if the repatriation of over 350,000 internally displaced person is not addressed, Red Cross Executive Director Abbas Gullet told the Kofi Annan led meditation team Monday.

The Red Cross has also appealed to the government to provide security to the internally displaced in camps where they are vulnerable.

The humanitarian crisis comes in the back drop of the Dec 27 President election placed President Mwai Kibaki ahead of Raila Odinga of the Orange Democratic Movement.

Both the opposition and government have maintained hard line positions over the election crisis.

At least over 1000 have been killed and over 500,000 people have been displaced after post-election conflict erupted over disputed Presidential elections in the East Africa country that had known peace since attaining her independence from the British in 1964.

It is a common saying that "when two elephants fight its only the grass that suffer". Raila and Kibaki are now relaxed in the name of maintaining hard lines over the post election crisis. What becomes of the over 1000 lives lost and the over 500,00 rendered homeless? This qustion remains unanswered. I was glad this morning when i heard on BBC that the youths in Kenya are begining to take a new position in instilling peace in Kenya. I hope the civil societies, religious groups, academicians and all others will follow suit in conscioustising all Kenyans not to use their lives as amminitions to fight political battles for selfish gains of just a few who will sit in their mansions tomorroww and refuse to sent even crumbs of their bread to them.
