Kenya: Mausoleum for world’s oldest pupil

    A memorial mausoleum for the world oldest pupil who passed on August at aged 90 will be constructed. The mausoleum will be constructed at Stephen Kimani Maruge's farm in Subukia, Rift Valley province where he was laid to rest.

    Maruge entered into the Guinness Book of World Records when he enrolled in a school in Eldoret in 2003 at the age of 84 when the Kenyan government made primary school education free.

    Before his death he was living in Chesire Home for the aged in Nairobi where he died in his room. Maruge died from cancer of aesophagus.

    However, Comboni missionary, Fr Paulino Mondo who administered on him the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick before he died said on phone that he was not aware whether the Catholic Church is involved with the construction of the mausoleum.
