A Kenyan MP has termed the government's decision to stop issuance of ID card in North Eastern province as serious violations of the law. Orange Democratic Movement -Kenya nominate MP ,Mohamed Abid Affey said it was wrong for the government to deny Kenyans their right to have identification documents which are very vital to access services as citizen.

“It’s not humane and the relevant ministry should do all it can to verify the applications and issue ID cards to Kenyan citizen because it’s their right,” said Affey.
Officials at the Ministry of immigration have been turning away people who were applying for ID cards. Residents said those seeking replacements for lost ID cards were told that they cannot be served unless the directive is withdrawn by the government.
“The registration officer told me that since I am ethnic Somali I will not be give n any service unless they get a directive from the ministry,” said Abdullahi Mohamed.
Three weeks ago the ministry of immigration through a directive stopped the issuance of ID cards after a series of allegations implicated the ministry’s officials in corruption.
Affey called on the Minister for Immigration Otieono Kajwang to address the plights of the people who are in need of the documents.
“It’s wrong to generalize and pass judgments which have negative effects on an entire community. No Kenyan should suffer at the expense of corrupt government officials,” Affey said.
