Karen, Wendall win Big Brother Amplified

    The premier African reality show, Big Brother Amplified, has made two young African woman and a man millionaires. These are a 23-year-old commercial pilot from Harare, Zimbabwe named Wendall and the Nigerian model, aged 27, Karen. The Nigerian, from Jos and Zimbabwean respectively take home US$200,000 each.

    They spent 91days in the Big Brother Africa House in Johannesburg, South Africa.

    From day one, they were 26 housemates, two housemates representing, from 14 African countries. These included; Nigeria, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, Ghana, Malawi, Zambia, Angola, Ethiopia, Botswana, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

    Under 24 cameras and 120 microphones in the Sasani studio that never blinks, the housemates went through their tasks, showed emotions of all sorts, used gossiping as a strategy to stay in the house, quarreled within themselves, had time for the eviction sessions as prescribed in the show, put up a series of dramatic actions, exhibited romance and of course, the exit strategies.

    M-Net Africa Managing Director Biola Alabi, told journalists just before the grand finale opened: “By definition amplified means to increase the volume, to make louder, to make more powerful. And that’s exactly what we have done with season six.”

    A week to the Big Brother Africa Finale, seven of the 26 housemates qualified for the grand finals. They were; Vina and Karen from Nigeria, Hanni from Ethiopia, Sharon O from Uganda, Lomwe from Malawi, Luclay from South Africa and Wendall from Zimbabwe.

    At the very colourful and star-studded grand finale, hosted by the fluent and charismatic IK Osakioduwa, Karen and Wendall were declared winners, with Wendall coming in, suggestively, as a surprise to many viewers. The fabulous host has been at the heart of the action since he joined the show two seasons ago.

    The eclectic ceremony also featured a lot of colour and sounds from across the African continent. These included the rising star from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Fally Ipupa, CPWAA, Professor featuring Speedy, Mocheda, DJ Black and the always present Amplified Crew.

    Big Brother is an international television format that features a number of contestants living in an isolated house, while trying to avoid being evicted, and ultimately winning a large cash prize following a set number of days in confinement.
