KENYA: World’s Greatest Runner to Adopt Fastest Animal


  1. NAIROBI, October 30, 2009 (CISA) –The world’s greatest runner Usain Bolt will name and adopt a cheetah, at the Kenya Wildlife Headquarters (KWS), Nairobi on Monday November 2, 2009 during the launch of the Animal Adoption Programme, Namayiana by Kenyan Prime Minister, Raila Odinga.
    Colin Jackson, the former world champion for 110 m hurdles will also adopt an impala.
    The event will take place at the Nairobi Animal Orphanage starting 1.30 pm.
    The two runners are ambassadors of the German foundation Zeitz for Intercultural Ecosphere Safety that aims to preserve the planet.
    The foundation aims to invest in research, listen to the experience of local communities and stakeholders and apply knowledge gained to create sustainable, ecological and social responsibility.
    All abandoned, abducted and injured wild animals are brought and cared at the Nairobi Animal Orphanage. That is why Kenya is launching The Animal Adoption Programme in an effort to sustain the care and meet the needs of the animals.
    Wild animals of all kinds and species, from within the country as well as other countries, are brought to the orphanage.
    Anyone can become adoptive parent or sponsor of an animal by becoming a member of KWS Animal Adoption Program. Membership fee is: individuals USD38, children USD15 and corporates USD125
