International investigation cocaine bust in SL

    Interpol is assisting the Sierra Leone Police while they are currently investigating the unauthorized landing of the Aircraft at the Lungi International Airport

    AIG Munu informed Africa News that another international crime agency, called the Serious Organized Crime Agency in the United States (SOCA) is also assisting the Sierra Leone Police in the ongoing investigations of what he termed as an International Criminal Conspiracy.

    Francis Munu also disclosed that culprits of the aircraft and cocaine saga would face several criminal charges that include the violation of Sierra Leone’s Airspace, unauthorized landing and the carrying of false passports among other crimes.

    According to Inspector Munu, eight more Venezuelans found in the country with different passports have been arrested and detained at the Pademba Road Prisons together with other suspects already arrested
    by the security agencies for further investigations.

    The Presidential Affairs Minister Alhaji Alpha Kanu has stated among other things that President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma ordered a thorough investigation into the matter. He said with regards to the white substance alleged to be cocaine, forensic experts would be invited to ascertain the substance during the ongoing investigations.

    Similar statements on the unauthorized landing of the Aircraft and punitive measures to be taken by government in accordance with the Rule of Law have also made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Zainab Bangura, the Minister of Transport and Aviation, Kemoh Sesay and the Director of the Office of National Security (ONS), Retired Brigadier Kelly Conteh.
