Mubarak arrived in Uganda Wednesday and was received on arrival at State House by President Museveni. The receiving ceremonies also included a 21-gun salute and inspected a guard of honor mounted by officers and men of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces.

Among other issues, his visit was meant to discuss with his Ugandan counterpart the ICC charges against the President of sudan al-Bashir and how to end the Darfur conflict. Other issues ranged from the conservation and proper use of river Nile water, to health and agriculture.

The two Presidents said on Wednesday that possible charges against Omar al-Bashir should be delayed. They stressed that Omar al-Bashir be given more time to improve the security situation in Darfur.

While speaking during a state luncheon hosted in his honor of the visiting Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak described President Museveni as a statesman who has achieved a lot for Uganda in particular and the world at large.

He pledged increased cooperation between the two nations.” I am confident that we shall do a lot for the good of the people of the two countries”, the Egyptian leader said.

Speaking at the same occasion, the Uganda President Yoweri Museveni called on Egyptians to come to Uganda and invest in the country's agro-based and food processing sectors.

President Museveni noted that given the prevailing high food prices at the global level, Uganda has a high potential to gain from food production sector because the country is already a big food producer. He said that Uganda is ready to co-operate with Egypt to produce as much food as possible for export to Egypt and other countries as well.

Mr. Museveni was happy to note that “we have made progress in supplying the big markets in the US, China and India, adding that when Egypt comes here, it will take advantage of the numerous investment opportunities”.

He said that the excellent relations between Uganda and Egypt have made it possible to foster good co-operation among the countries of the River Nile basin.
