A fight broke up between Muslims and Christians in N’Zérékoré in the south of Guinea, about 1,000 km away from Conakry.
A Christian woman tried to cross an area where Muslims were performing their Friday prayers in the district GNAIA Kpama-2 area of the former hotel "Foret Sacrée" where a mosque is located. Many traders are Muslims who perform their religious obligation there for reasons of proximity. The officer in charge of watching over the place prevented the woman to pass. Clashes occurred and the woman was an injured and had lost 80 kg of rice, 2, 000000 GNF and many other objects. She was admitted to the hospital. Subsequently, apologies were made to the lady and her losses reimbursed. The officer of the local police was arrested. The case was closed after the negotiation sessions. The city has resumed its normal rhythm.
On January 5th the result was regrettable: 4 dead including 1 burnt alive, many wounded among them 14 soldiers, houses, bars, taverns and public houses destroyed. A curfew was set up from 7 pm to 5 p m and then expanded to three day. The activities ended with no movement allowed. A trivial argument tends to turn into a religious conflict and / or ethnicity.
The local authority intervened. The police took up positions throughout the city with sporadic shooting to deter onlookers and other spoilers.
Informed about the situation, the President of the transition General Sékouba Konaté immediately sent An important mission of the CNDD and the government led by the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Colonel Bourema Conde and including the General Secretary of Religious Affairs, Dr. Mustafa Koutoubou Sano, Archbishop Vincent Koulibaly, the 2nd Imam of Faycall Mosque, Elhadj Mamadou Saliou Camara and intellectuals of their respective departments. They arrived in the capital of the forest region Saturday, January 6th, 2010.
The purpose of this mission was to find ways and means to bring different minds to calm, dialogue and acceptance following the banal incident that pitted a woman from an open market and a communal police officer a few days ago.
Nobody slept a wink all night from Saturday to Sunday. Colonel Bourema Condé an intelligent, patient and attentive negotiator who knows the area for directing the destinies of the prefecture and the region, supported by religious leaders held meetings with the notables, the faithful Muslims and Christians, youth and all that could lead to appeasement. The tension eventually declined. Each party was asked to return to its base with the different approaches taken and results achieved. Spirits are calmed. However, young people require the release of the officer arrested.
For the latest news, a statement signed by the Regional Governor and read on the rural radio and FM Liberté private radio, invites everyone to the resumption of activities. A monitoring committee is established.
