Guinea: Kabine Komara is new PM

    Kabine Komara has been appointed as the new prime minister of Guinea by the military rulers a week after their coup. He is a banker and his appointment comes as western envoys are due to meet Guinea's leaders in Conakry. The African Union suspended the country because of the military seizure of power.

    Meanwhile, Captain Moussa Camara has met with civil society, the political parties, the trade unions and the religious leaders. He said that they took power to bring the changes the country is yearning for and to organise free, fair, transparent and credible elections by December 2010.

    He added that he will not participate in the next elections. After the polls they will all return to their camp. He said that they are committed to fight against corruption, ethnocentrism, regionalism, embezzlement, and impunity and drug trafficking. He mentioned that audits will be organised and all corrupt official will be severely punished.

    Moreover, the CNDD has suspended all the mining contracts. All contracts must be renegotiated. They demanded all gold mining companies to stop the extraction until the end of the renegotiations.

    He invited them to unite in order to make concrete proposals to the CNDD. He had already appointed Lieutenant colonel Sekouba Konaté as the Minister of Defence and General Toto as a Security Minister.

    On Sunday, he retired more than 25 old army officers. Some had spent 40 years and others 50 in the army.

    Concerning the legislative elections, he requested the political party leaders to choose the date when they will take place.

    With the instruction of the president, inspectors have already started audits at the port and the mining sector.
