Government to Intervene in the Trial of Dulee Johnson

  1. The local governing body of football, LFA, is urging the Liberian Government to intervene in the rape case involving Liberian professional footballer Dulee Johnson.
The LFA through its president Musa Bility, Monday November 8, 2010, wrote the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs to look into the matter involving the Swedish based Liberian star player currently languished in a Swedish jail on rape charges.
The communication seeks the indulgence of the Foreign Ministry to inquire about the player’s status, with the LFA believing strongly that the Ministry’s diplomatic approach can acquire all information needed by it and by extension the Liberian football enthusiasts at home and abroad.
Duleee Johnson, 26, was last Month arrested and jailed by Swedish Police for allegedly raping a 22 year-old woman in Sweden. On October 13, 2010, Dulee’s Swedish football club AIK suspended him indefinitely in connection with the charges.
AIK’s main backer, the brewer Åbro, had issued an ultimatum telling the club to suspend Johnson within 24 hours or lose its sponsorship. Other sponsors such as Peab endorsed the move.
Dulee Johnson's lawyer Michael Linden said the player has denied all charges. However, he has been refused bail, thus keeping him in incarceration since his arrest pending trial.
The LFA said its inquiry in the matter has not been profitable. The football house on October 27, 2010 communicated with the Swedish Football Association for detail leading to the player’s arrest and detention. In response on November 2, 2010, the Swedish FA said “Johnson is subject to police investigation under strict confidentiality”.
Dulee was born in Monrovia on November 7, 1984. As a midfielder, Dulee has had tremendous impact on his country’s football. He has played in all categories of the Liberia national teams beginning from the youth level in 1997, to the senior national side in 2001.
The midfield prodigy left the country for Sweden for professional sojourn in 2000 where he has equally made indelible marks beginning at Floda.
