Google partners with Africa firm

    South African directory inquiries company Brabys becomes the first firm in Africa to be appointed as an authorized reseller of Google Ad Words. Director Mark Buwalda said it was a significant deal for small businesses to afford to advertise on some of the best sites in South Africa as well as on Google.

    Ad Words are online advertisements that display when people run a Google search for specific products and services. It helps businesses to target people with a definite interest in that product.

    South Africa’s media reported last week Friday that Braby’s runs the Ananzi.c.za search engine for South African pages. According to the reports, the company’s staff that place adverts on behalf of customers, will be trained on the Ad Words program.

    However Braby’s director could not be drawn to say as to how much extra cash the deal would generate but said he would hire more staff. In another development, the South African rand gave up some of its gains late Thursday.

    According to an Sabcnews.com report, the lower global markets and softer commodity prices are among the issues set to dominate local financial markets for the country.

    The US dollar is trading at R9.91. Sterling is worth R16.24, while the Euro will cost R12.74. The greenback rose to 97.8 Japanese Yen. The Euro retreated to $127.9, while the Aussie dollar slipped to 66.9 American cents.
