Ghana's Communications Minister Haruna Iddrissu has dismissed claims by Glo Mobile that there are deliberate attempts to frustrate them from starting operations in that country. The telecoms operator, citing the frustrations especially with the erection of its cell sites is threatening to pack out of the country.

But Iddrisu said Glo’s claims are unfounded, especially when most of the issues they raised have been addressed.

“In respect of the interference with their spectrum allocation, that has been resolved since January and Glo is well aware,” he said.

He said following meetings with officials of Glo and NCA, the spectrum was made available to the former.

Glo also accuses the Environmental Protection Agency of sabotage with its ban on the erection of telecom masts.

But Deputy Environment and Science Minster of Ghana Dr. Omane Boamah said the ban is not targeted at Glo mobile.

“We gave a directive to the EPA to place a moratorium on the construction of these towers and so in our view for the publication to push the argument that the EPA was sabotaging Glo mobile is very unfair.

"We see it as a surreptitious attempt to draw the ministry’s name into it."

He said the ministry is unfazed by the criticism and will pursue the policy in the interest of the country. Dr Boamah entreated all stakeholders to adhere to the new policy.
