The third political force in Ghana has conceded defeat barely 24 hours of results declaration. The CPP - highly tipped to split votes of the ruling NPP and the opposition NDC failed to impress with results declared so far. 104 out of 230 results declared put the NPP ahead with 2,158,697 votes (50.78%).

Ghanaians took advantage of the public holiday on Monday to keep vigil all night as electoral results slowly trickle in from the Electoral Commission through radio and television stations. The two main political forces in Ghana are in a close contest as their strongholds are yet to be declared.
Provisional results so far put Nana Akufo-Addo of the NPP ahead with 2,158,697 votes (50.78%) followed by NDC’s Prof. John Evans Atta-Mills with 1,968,662 (46.31%). The Convention People’s Party of Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom has polled 57,443 (1.35%) and the People’s National Convention has so far bagged 30,584 (0.72%). Others are the DPP 4,220 (0.10%), DFP 11,874 (0.28%), RPD 2,943 (0.07) and independent candidate 16,955 (0.40%). A winner needs 50%+1 vote.
Meanwhile, parliamentary results show that top political bigwigs of both the NPP and NDC have lost their seats and the next Parliament of Ghana might see new faces. Among the political casualties are the Information Minister Stephen Asamoah Boateng and very popular NDC Mahama Ayariga of the Bawku Central in the Northern region.
Samiah Nkrumah, daughter of Ghana’s first president Dr Kwame Nkrumah is reported to be in a commanding lead in her Jomoro constituency in the Western region of Ghana near the Ghana-Cote d’Ivoire border.
Meanwhile, Ghana is calm and people could be seen around street corners, homes and in public transport monitoring the results. Turn out was massive according to the Electoral Commission.
President Kufuor thanked Ghanaians for comporting themselves during the elections and called on all the candidates to accept the official results when declared.
