Ghana: Gov't withdraws Abedi Pele's bid

    The government of Ghana has through the Ministry of Youth and Sports withdrawn the letter it sent to the Ghana Football Association to replace GFA President Kwasi Nyantakyi with Abedi Ayew Pele for an executive position at Confederation of African Cup (CAF).

    The decision to replace Mr Nyantakyi with Abedi generated controversy in the country as many interpreted it as government interference in football and sports in general.

    Mr. Randy Abbey the PRO for GFA who revealed this on ASEMPA FM’s EKOSII SEN indicated that the FA is okay with the withdrawal of the letter by government since it would have been a difficult situation considering the processes gone through to present Mr. Nyantakyi’s name to CFA.

    Mr. Randy Abbey said the new letter which was dated 12th November, 2010 reached them today [Monday] and it was signed by the Minister for Sports Akua Sena Dansua.
