Ghana: Black Stars tamed Desert Hawks

  1. Author: Daniel Nana Aforo

The Senior National Team of Ghana, the Black Stars has triumph over their counterparts Desert Hawks of Sudan 2-0 at their backyard.

A brace from striker Mattew Amoah in the 6 and 51 minutes gave the victory for the Black Stars at the joint World and African Cup qualifications. With only one point for the Sudanese, the game between Ghana was a make or break for them, as only a win could retrieve their World Cup dreams.

After two straight wins against Benin and particularly Mali in Bamako, the Blacks Stars had promised the country of victory hence put aside any form complacency that will hinder their quest for qualification.

The Desert Hawks outplayed most of the game especially in the first half with seven corner kicks against one going to Black Stars. A perfect cross from Prince Tagoe in the early minutes of the game into the 18 yard box was easily tapped by Mattew Amoah.

Two minutes after the goal the danger man Mudathir El Tahir`s beautiful 28 yards strike was denied by the goal post. The Sudanese Coach Stephen Constantine in the 31 minutes made a change to beef up his midfield which nearly fetched equalizer.

With the support of their vociferous and determined home crowd on their side Desert Hawks mounted pressure upon pressure on their opponent but goalkeeper Richard Kingston stood tall at the post.

Captain John Mensah, Kwadwo Asamoah and Anthony Anaan got booked by the Libyan official.

Udinese Kadwo Asamoah took a ball from the center in the 51 minute outplaying his markers and sends the ball to the 18 yard box to Mattew Amoah which was beautifully converted into goal post.

Michael Essien came nearly close the chapter when his ball that beat the goalkeeper was delightfully recovered on the line by Sudanese defender Omer Bakheit in the 90 minutes.

In the previous five matches between the two sides, Ghana has never beaten Sudan in an away encounter and team build around their strong local clubs Al Hilal and El Merrkh being supported by their unfeeling weather conditions, pundits had predicted a draw for the Black Stars.

Before the match, reports trigging in was that the authorities had drastically reduced gate fee ton ensure huge home crowd capacity to offer an intimidation support against Ghana.

Ironically, the vociferous home crowd turns against their country supporting the Black Stars after seeing that nothing profitable could come out from their team.
