The National Chief Imam of Ghana who is the Supreme Leader of Muslims in Ghana, Shiekh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu has added his voice to the to condemn homosexuality in Ghana.Has stressed that homosexuality and lesbianism are filthy practices which Allah frowns upon in the Holy Qur'an and so must not be encouraged.

He said, Ghana as a religious pluralistic society, should not compromise ungodly acts so that it could achieve spiritual and socio-economic development.

“The practice of lesbianism and homosexuality caused the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, so Ghana should not indulge in it to avoid the wrath of Allah,” he said, and called on the government to do everything possible to stop the practice.

The National Chief Imam made these remarks at a news briefing on the annual holy month of Ramadan in Accra Monday.

The National Executive Secretary of the office of the Chief Imam, Alhaji Awaiso Bio, disclosed that July 31 is the day set aside for the first sighting of the moon for the month of Ramadan and August I, would mark the commencement of this year’s Ramadan.

He added that if unforeseen contingencies such as rains and dark clouds prevented the moon from being sighted, then August 2 would be the automatic day for the beginning of the fast.

He entreated all Muslims in the country to do away with all kinds of differences and unite for a common goal to ensure a successful Ramadan.

“All regions would be given representation on the National Hajj Board to ensure equity and enhance quality delivery of Hajj Services,” he stated.

Alhaji Bio entreated Muslim parents to invest in the education of their children to equip them with the necessary skills to enable them to assume leadership positions in the country.

“The greatest gift parents can give to their children is to invest in their education” he indicated

He urged the Muslim community to comport themselves as the country was entering into an election year, adding that they should not tarnish the image of the Muslim religion by engaging in violent acts.

Alhaji Bio emphasised that, “Belonging to a political party is not a crime, but fighting your fellow human because of politics is a crime in Islam.”

He called on all Muslims to be pure and fully observe the Holy Month of Ramadan to make it a success.
