Gays attend Blantyre AIDS Day Commemorations

    Malawi commemorated World AIDS Day on December 1, but the toast of the day seemed to be the activities held in Malawi's commercial city, Blantyre, where assembly officials provided a pavilion for gays who were out to preach their vulnerability to HIV and AIDS.
    Blantyre held the commemoration event at Kachere Primary School in Ndirande, the district's most populous township. Residents were, however, astounded upon learning that one of the pavlions belonged to gays, who wanted to press the message that HIV and AIDS knew no boundaries home to policy makers and community members.
    Their decision to erect a pavilion coincied with an appeal by Malawi's UNAIDS Country Director that the country accommodates same-sex partnerships in its fight aaaagainst the pandemic.
    Blantyre City Assembly HIV and AIDS Coordinator, Lothiar Ngulube, said the time when people discriminated others was long over, hence the assembly's decision to accommodate all sectors of society in the fight against a pandemic whose infection rates seem to have stalled countrywide, but still maintains a strong negative grip against the country's prosperity.
