Gambia's ministry of youth and sports said the dissolve the executive body of the Gambia Football Association is irreversible amid threats of facing severe sanction by the world football governing body FIFA. The Gambia Fottball Association was dissolved last weekend in the wake of Gambia's 2-1 loss to Algeria in the 2013 Nations Cup qualifier opener played in Banjul.

According to Daily Observer; The Sports ministry’s permanent secretary Mambanyick Njie on Tuesday told West Coast Radio a local radio station the decision taken by the ministry is in the best interest of the Gambian people; but he was also quick to add continue to pursue the conversation with FIFA.
He emphasized that they will not retract their decision by reinstating the executives. ‘As a government, we would prefer to be banned by FIFA and reorganize the association than wasting their resources;’ he stressed. Saying that the decision they took at the weekend is final and irreversible.
Mr Njie accused FIFA of interfering in governments’ decision by threatening to impose sanction against the country. “We believed that our action is necessary and relevant and it is irreversible because, sports in general and football in particular should be administered in the best interest of Gambians”.
The World Football governing body in a letter address to the Gambian authorities described government’s decision as a clear governmental interference and therefore infringes the FIFA Statutes which could lead to severe sanctions.
FIFA stresses that all of its member associations must manage their affairs independently and within the football family with no influence from third parties in compliance with article 13 par. 1g) and article 17 of the FIFA statutes.
FIFA further ordered an official report on the account of events related to the current situation faced by the GFA by 8 March 2012. Upon expiry of this deadline the submission of the present case to FIFA’s Emergency Committee will be evaluated.
FIFA informs the GFA that the alleged decision by the Gambian ministry of youth and sport would not be recognized and/or condoned in any way- In particular, no governmental instituted “interim committee” would be recognized and/or dealt with by FIFA. The letter stated.
