Police immediately blamed a terror group in the neighbouring country of Somalia for the attack with the internal security minister Professor George Saitoti vowing that the government will pursue them.

" Obviously we suspect this attack to be linked to Al-Shabaab and we are going to pursue them within and into Somalia", said Saitoti.

Kenya currently is engaged in a war inside Somalia against the Al-Shabaab and is helped by the Transitional Federal Government (TFG), which is the one running the lawless East African country. Recently Kenyan forces were allowed to join AMISOM which is the UN intervention force made up largely of local armies.

This attack was the third in the capital after two others but this was by far the most lethal.
