Fencing Majete Wildlife: Fact and figures

    Here you find a time line of the construction of the Majete Electrical Fence. Started two and a half year ago as a whish, now the 130 kilometre fence is supposed to be finished in March 2008.

    November, 27 2007
        * 70 KM completely finished.

    November, 6 2007
        * 32 KM completely finished
        * 22 KM electrical fence finished
        * First fence- attendants house is ready.

    October 2007     
        * Arrival transport chain link in Majete
        * Visit Matthijs de Jong (Topguard/Heras) Majete.
        * Start implementing the chain link on the fence. After attaching the chain link, the electric wires can be placed.
        * Continue with the overall construction.

    End of September 2007 
        * Arrival of chain link in harbour Beira, Mozambique.

    June 2007            
        * Start building of the fence by clearing the land and placement of wooden poles. 80 kilometre poles so far finished.
        * Start building guards houses.
        * Start placement of solar energy generators besides the guards house.

    May 2007             
        * Placement of orders by Spanish firm.
        * Production of chain links starts. Transport over sea containers
        * Wooden poles being produced locally in Malawi.

    March 2007         
        * Final plan finished. Material for the fence needs to be produced. Negotiations third parties started.

    November 2006 
        * Malawi budget finalised. Final plan to be designed.

    May 2006              
        * Construction plans created again, implementation strategies designed.
        * Visit Klaas Krottje on behalf of Heras to Malawi and Ethiopia.
        * Malawi project intensifies, Ethiopia project on hold.

    December 2005  
        * First construction plans fences Ethiopia and Malawi finished.
        * Heras works out technical part the plan.
        * Consensus between different parties to be established.

    August 2005         
        * Heras is asked by African Parks Conservation Founder Paul van Fentener van Vlissingen to support in the building of fences in Ethiopia and Malawi.
