FC Barcelona no longer needs Eto'o

Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o moved a step closer to the Camp Nou exit after the new Barcelona coach, Pep Guardiola, revealed he is surplus to requirements. The 27-year-old was told he is not part of the club's plans for next season along with his Brazil-born team-mate Ronaldinho and Portugal's Deco.

The statement by Guardiola has alerted English sides Arsenal and Tottenham as well as Italian giants AC Milan about the availability of Eto'o.

All three players were below their best last season and missed large chunks of the campaign due to injuries.
Their commitment has also been questioned amid reports of dressing-room disharmony under the previous coach, Frank Rijkaard.

Guardiola, who was officially unveiled as Barcelona's coach on 18 June 2008 looks set to wipe the slate clean by selling the trio. "All of the players in the first-team squad last season are of a very high level," he said. "But with the technical secretary (Txiki Begiristain) we are forming a new squad and Deco, Ronaldinho and Eto'o are not in our minds.”

Tottenham Hotspurs have shown an interest in Eto'o, but the Cameroon striker's wage demands make a move to the English club unlikely.

Italian club AC Milan has also shown interest in Eto'o, a three-time African Footballer of the Year, who has scored 77 league goals in his four seasons with Barcelona.
