  1. Nairobi Mayoral Elections; Leaders Need To Emulate

    - Finally the Nairobi Mayoral battle came to an end after a deal was brokered between the two warring sides the ODM and PNU to share power rather responsibilities of running the city council. It was a rare moment to see the two opposing sides hug in content bearing in mind the fact that Nairobi mayoral elections have always ended up in brawls. It produced heroes to emulate out of a city hall where elections have traditionally been fought with fists fights. Hope came at around 5 pm, after much deliberations and consultations from both side, Baba Dogo’s ward councilor Geoffrey Majiwa of ODM was sworn in as the new Nairobi mayor to be deputized by his PNU counterpart Kasarani…

  2. Repeat Elections Now

    - Just days after admitting partisanship in the last elections, the inter-religious forum is now calling for a repeat of the General Election (G.E.) within the shortest time possible . Speaking at a press conference, Secretary General, National Council of Churches of Kenya, Canon Peter Karanja has said that they doubt the competence of the current crop of leaders to midwife the process of resolving the current political impasse and thus the 2007 G.E. be annulled to pave way for new elections. The forum is also urging for the resignation of the current ECK leadership, the dismissal of all returning officers and recruitment of new ones to pave way for its (ECK) reconstitution and that…

  3. EAC summit set for Nairobi postponed

    - The Extra-ordinary Summit of the East African Heads of State earlier scheduled to be held in Nairobi , Kenya on 8 - 9 February 2008 has been postponed until further notice. The move comes after protests by the opposition that argued President Mwai Kibaki was facing an electoral dispute and such indirect endorsement was a direct affront on his ledership. However foreign Affairs ministers meeting in Nairobi starting Friday under IGAD have arrived and are all set for the meeting. The statement postponing the meeting was sent from Arusha Tanzania and was signed by the secretariat Communications office.

  4. Power is nothing without control

    - I am astounded beyond words to a point of thinking that Kenya may never be the same again. I am not alone in this realm of thinking but it’s with how events have unfolded of late that fellow Kenyans are also along my line of thinking that our “peaceful” country may never come back to what it was. Something must have been missing. A triggering force is all that was in waiting. This we can not blame on politricks nor can we blame it on our leaders. They were just a channel to let sprout the anger and hatred among the two ethnic tribes that have been in a tangle for power since independence. Kenyans have acted illiterately on the contrary to the expectations of many. K…

  5. Of a general and live amunition

    - This is one of the darkest periods in the Kenyan history and it’s very sad to see how our leaders have downplayed the issue of peace in favour of their own personal interest that have led to no good but bloodshed. Some have been quoted as saying they are fighting for a third liberation but that has not been the case. All that has come out in reality is the fact that no one is fighting for any liberation nor is anyone fighting for a just course. NO NOT ONE ODM de facto leader Raila Odinga is on record after being asked why he has not been attending the demonstrations, as saying that he is the ‘GENERAL’ and his appearance for the literal mass action procession would m…

  6. President prorogues parliament

    - A statement released by the Presidential Press Service (PPS Kenya) has said that the president has prorogued parliament with effect from today Wednesday barely a day after the house was convened. The statement has gone further to explain that the prorogation was a routine, marking the first session and prepares the stage for the official opening of the tenth parliament. The President's decree comes in a special Kenya Gazette notice dated and issued on the 16th of January, which means that the doors of the National Assembly may remain shut for a number of weeks. “In exercise of the powers conferred by section 59 (1) of the Constitution of Kenya, the President has prorog…

  7. Kenya: Kibaki books first victory

    - The elevation of the Emuhaya MP-elect Peter Marende to the post of the speaker was inevitable as he won via a majority rule which of course was due to the fact that the ODM was well represented in the house than the government by a majority of MP’s.Through this win the ODM party fraternity had it well planned that the speaker would have a stint of bias leaning towards the opposing side to their amazement, without knowing that he was bound by the constitution and all the affairs of parliament would run as per the law.It was a point of shame for top name lawyer from the ODM side James Orengo, raising a point of order to decline the oath of office simply because they would have sworn all…

  8. FIRST VICTORY FOR GOVERNMENT AS TENTH PARLIAMENT RE-OPENS

    - Yesterday’s re-opening of the tenth parliament in Kenya marked the first victory for the government contrary to the expectations of many who had it in mind that it was to have a tough time managing the affairs of the house. The elevation of the Emuhaya MP-elect Peter Marende to the post of the speaker was inevitable as he won via a majority rule which of course was due to the fact that the ODM was well represented in the house than the government by a majority of MP’s. Through this win the ODM party fraternity had it well planned that the speaker would have a stint of bias leaning towards the opposing side to their amazement, without knowing that he was bound by the const…

  9. Kenya: I will not accept results, says Raila

The Orange Democratic Movement Raila Odinga has said he will not accept the outcome of the presidential race poll results. - Raila who was addressing a press conference at the Pentagon House has vowed not to accept the verdict of the Electoral Commission of Kenya and has called for fresh tallying of the poll results for all the 210 constituencies countrywide. This comes after the ECK suspended the vote counting as a result of accusations and counter accusations of rigging between presidential contenders and their supporters at the commission's headquarters in Nairobi yesterday.

  10. Give us a president

    - Tension and Anxiety has since built up over election polls results and is now causing unrest among the Kenyan citizens. Police on patrol around the Kenyatta International Conference Center (KICC) Nairobi which is housing the Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK) press centre have been forced to use teargas to disperse rowdy crowds that have since started building up around the Nairobi town centre. The crowds which are made up of angry party supporters who are anxious to know the winner for the presidential race are now blaming the ECK for the delay in announcing the results. People have chosen to stay indoors to avoid confrontations between the police and the crowds that are forc…

  11. Propaganda: Who will blame you?

    - It’s now a few days to the General election and to be precise nine days to go and Kenyans are savoring with a desire to know what will happen come and after the 27th December. The one thing that the Kenyan citizens have condoned is the fact that they have entirely accepted baseless propaganda to take the center stage during this electioneering period. Kenyan politicians are good at the oral war of words in that those issues concerning the common Mwanainchi have been sidelined and overtaken by propaganda some of whom have taken to buying airtime from the radio and TV stations in a bid to ensure the vice prevails. The fact that important issues have been given less airtime fr…

  12. Our first lady: Our embarrasment

    - The current generation of Kenyans has lived on a sad end for the past years without ever knowing the existence of a first lady nor have they known that the ruler of the last regime had a wife by the name Lena. Many stories have been told of the former regime master and his estranged wife though none of those have truly been confirmed most are hearsay some which Moi himself behind the curtains had scolded as without base. None of these tales appeared in the local press. However, people close to the president have contemptuously dismissed the tales as mere tittle-tattle put about by his critics and political opponents. "Not true," they often say. Now that Kenya has been p…

  13. The art of propaganda

    - The war of words has now intensified between the two major parties as the political pressure continues to build up with only fourteen more days to go towards the General Elections. The Party of National Unity (PNU) is now telling off the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Raila Odinga over claims that members of his pentagon team are clean of corruption simply because none of them has by far been convicted nor prosecuted. PNU’s Campaign manager George Nyamweya has said it would be dishonest for Raila to defend the same people he put in jeopardy earlier on with claims of corruption and also defend one of his knowing very well that he has a court case pending. Ny…

  14. NEW FORM OF ADVERTISING: A THREAT TO THE KENYAN MEDIA

    - The Kenyan Media now feels threatened by a new technology that has been introduced in the country referred to as the Digital Display Signage System. .This is a new form of advertising being experienced for the first time in Kenya which involves the installation of high quality LCD screens in high visibility locations in major cities around the country. SpanImage Kenya is the company behind this new venture which has already drawn under its name, big companies like the Nakumatt chain of supermarkets, the Sarit Center, Fox Theatres and Family Health Options Kenya which have already subscribed to this new form of technology also called the Narrow Casting. Speaking at the pre-launch c…
