Manuel Jose has ended his illustrious coaching career with Egyptian giants Al Ahly after six years in charge. The coach resigned on Sunday after spearheading the most successful chapters in the history of the club. He led the club to four Champions League triumphs. Jose has one year left on his contract.

Jose has been linked with the vacant coaching post of Angola. But the Portuguese told Ahly's football committee that he will be in charge until the end of the month after their Confederation Cup games against Santos of Angola, the BBC reported.

His decision comes in the wake of last week's shock elimination from the Champions League by Nigerian side Kano Pillars.

Ahly's chance of winning the Egyptian league title is also hanging by a thread as they are three points behind leaders Ismaili.

Despite being linked to the coaching post of the Palancas Negras, the Angola Football Federation has refused to confirm move.

Even though the club has suffered recent setbacks, the Portuguese is considered as the most successful coach in the history of the club.

He guided the club to 18 titles in his two stints in charge of the Cairo side.

Jose joined Ahly for the first time in 2001 and won the Champions League and the African Super Cup before returning to his home country to coach Belenenses.

He returned in 2003 to help them to win four league titles, two Egypt Cups and four Egyptian Super Cups.

The Portuguese also won three more Champions League titles as well as three Africa Super Cup titles.
