EDUCATE WOMEN ON TREATIES E,A,C. URGED


  1. Women enterpreneurs in East african community[EAC] need to be assisted to understand international, regional treaties and legislations to enhance their a bility to identify and exploit bussiness opportunities.

    Opening a regional conference in socio-economic development and women in bussiness conference in Kigali, Rwanda, the President of Rwanda Paul Kagame said there is need for patner states to establish mechanisims that encourage women to areas of high growth potential such as finance, banking and mining.

    ' We need to implement and finance all the initiatives that create jobs for women in order to empower them to fight poverty and participate in the economic intergration of the east africa community regions' president Kagame said.

    Rwandan minister for east africa affairs, Monique Mukaruliza said it is important to consider women as key players in regional intergration.

    She stressed that member countries should roll out more training programmes for women to enable them effectively participate in the regional intergration process.

    The East africa community council of ministers chairperson ,Hafsa Mossi noted that Rwanda was leading in the world in the recognising and encouraging the role of women in development.

    In Rwanda Women constitute 56 per cent of all political representation in the country.

    The Kenyan delegation to the forum was led by the assistant minister for Gender, Chidren and social development Manyala Keya, MP Joseph Magwagwa and jackson Kiptanui, Permanent secretaries David Nalo for East african community, and James Nyikal of gender, children and social development.

    Other participant at the conference included 36 women enterpreneurs in the region.
