Drogba’s kick against AIDS

    Chelsea’s international striker, Didier Drogba is off the pitch today. He is on the streets preaching and kicking against AIDS.

    “I have visited some hospitals in Africa and I have seen for myself how people die helplessly of AIDS….If you understand how people die then you will fight to give hope and support to people who are affected by AIDS” Drogba said in more of an advocate tone.

    Drogba is one of the celebrities that have taken off time to talk and act on the dangerous pandemic of HIV/AIDS.

    “I am joining in the campaign today because it is necessary that we all kick out AIDS” he told CNN in London.

    The Ivory Coast born regular Chelsea striker joined international musician and social activist, Bono on visits and concerts to press the need for world leaders to act in ways that provide open access to treatment and drugs to the world most vulnerable people suffering from the pandemic of AIDS.

    This year’s theme for the day is ‘Human Rights and Access to Treatment’. World AIDS day is an annual event to mark or remind the world of one of the disease that has claimed more lives than any other in history.

    Available statistics from UNAIDS reveals about 33.4million people are living with HIV/AIDS. 60% of these populations live in sub Saharan African where access to drugs and good treatment is low.
