The Ajax Cape Town team was finishing their training session and were about to leave the pitch when Didier Drogba and his new team entered the field to start their own training. The encounter was inevitable and Didier was happy to meet young talents from the MUPC and take a few photos with them.

Drogba has signed with Shanghai Shenhua. The 34-year-old will join French striker Nicolas Anelka. The strikers will work under former Argentine coach Sergio Batista, who joined the club in May. Shenhua is bankrolled by high-profile videogame tycoon Zhu Jun.

Drogba may be approaching the twilight of his career but he showed he is still a lethal striker with a match-winning role for Chelsea in the Champions League final in May.

The Ajax Cape Town team is part of twenty finalists across the world in the competition. Steve Bower had earlier welcomed the teams and invited guests for the draw at the Holiday Inn, including Vincent Lai, Football Brand Director for Nike China, and Competitions Department  Director  from the Chinese FA, Mr Qi Jun.

Vincent Lai underlined how happy Nike China were to host the event:”our mission is to change the perception of sport in China and we are hoping the shared passion of such a world class football tournament will encourage the youth of China to play!”

Mr Qi Jun added: “We hope that Chinese players and coaches will see this tournament and that will inspire them to raise the level of skills in China. Finally, we are very happy to host a tournament where children from different countries and cultures come together, building bridges through football.”
