Discussion: Sex education in Africa

  1. It is a taboo to talk about sex in the midst of children in most African countries. Children grow up with little or no knowledge about physical changes in them while their counterparts in the West are immediately introduced to it at such tender age. African parents shy away from discussing sex because they believe such children would illegally practice it and become disrespectful.

Some argue that the African child should be thought how to respect and relate to their elders and would grow up to know about sex. Is this the cause of the rising HIV/AIDS in most African countries? Which of the above schools of thought do you subscribe to – share your views.

    Dear parents,
"Its true you have highly ignored sex education to your own children",
Its also true that as they disguise that the children are young, they then after some time assume that the children are now mature and know what is right and what is wrong without educating them., but surprisingly, as they wait for the children to grow, they are realizing that the girls are already pregnant by their own sons whom they think are young. As a pear educator who has volunteered with Students' Partnership Worldwide,S.P.W. Uganda. Parents should teach their children about sex from their childhood or as soon as adolescence in the respective sexes, the girls are getting pregnant so early, infarct its this negligence that is promoting the beastly acts like homosexuality, lesbianism, pornography, cross generational sex, among others.
The time is now, arise and teach the African child the sex values and norms, for a better Africa as we remain the custodians of moral values.
