Cameroon Lions trash Mauritius

    The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon are progressing in the on-going preliminary matches for the African Cup of Nations (CAN) and World Cup 2010 campaigns billed for Angola and South Africa respectively. Cameroon was finalist in the last CAN tournament.

    In Day 2 matches for the Lions’ pool, where you also have Cape Verde, Tanzania and the Mauritius Island, the squad of German-born trainer and 70-year-old Otto Pfister walloped their counterparts from the Mauritius Island 3-0. The match took place in Curepipe.

    Lions’ defender, André Stéphane Amougou Bikey, who trades his professional know-how with Reading, a British club, which has just been relegated to the Division 2 League opened scores at the 11th minute thanks to a well-served pass from striker, Samuel Eto’o Fils. Eto’o, the scorer from FC Barcelona will increase his goal tally so far in these preliminary matches 16 minutes later, when he netted the second goal for Cameroon.

    The Eto’o goal came in at the 27th minute into the match. The Barça and Cameroon goal getter has to his credit 2 goals for the ACN/World Cup 2010 campaigns.

    Bebey Mbangue, one of the new kids on the block, introduced by Pfister, slotted in the third goal for the Lions at the 86th minute of the match. Mbangue had earlier come into the match as a substitute for Real Marlloca’s Achille Kwamu Webo.

    Within 90 minutes of the encounter, some players in both camps had warnings from the referee. Webo was shown a yellow card at the 46th minute, Eto’o was yellow-carded at the 51st and Danwoochand Sewraj of the Mauritius Island was given a yellow booking at the 76th minute.

    From Koripipe with 6 points to their credit, the next “victim” of the Lions will be Tanzania come Saturday, June 14 2008 at Dar-Es-Salam.

    Still in the Lions’ group, Cape Verde beat Tanzania 1-0. The Lions top their group with 6 points.
