Cameroon: Interpol recovers stolen vehicles

    Some 35 vehicles allegedly stolen from Belgium, France, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Poland and Cameroon have been recovered. This is the result of a special operation organized by the police forces in Yaounde and Douala. The exercise dubbed Operation Gbana II was organised with assistance from Interpol.

    Some 10 000 vehicles have already been checked in a bid to track down stolen vehicles that are in circulation.

    The control team checking the vehicles is made up of a mixed contingent of the Police, the Gendarmerie, Customs officials and officials of the Ministry of Transport.

    Speaking over the week end, the Delegate General for National Security, Elgard Alain Mebe Ngo’o said the operation is expected to continue in other parts of the country.

    Elgard Alain Mebe Ngo’o advised all persons who have been victims of car theft to immediately alert the Police or the Gendarmerie who will channel this information to the data base of the Interpol, the international institution currently coordinating the operation.

    The 35 vehicles recovered so far, are only vehicles that have been identified by the Interpol data base.

    A similar operation has already been organised in Central African Republic, Gabon, Chad and Congo. It shall extend to the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sao Tome and Principe.
