Cameroon: Cholera Epidemic Feared In Capital

    The cholera epidemic that has rocked Cameroon’s northern regions is feared to have spread to the Capital city, Yaounde.

    This was after a 40-year-old businessman man of Nigerian Nationality was returning from his country and immediately became the origin of fear and panic that griped the capital city.

    The man boarded the trained bound for Yaoundé in Ngoundere in the Adamawa region. During the journey he suffered severe bouts of vomiting and diarrhoea.

    His closest neighbour provided him with three tablets of an anti-cholera drug but the vomiting persisted till the train got to Mbandjock in the Centre region.

    The chief medical officer of the Health District confirmed he had been attacked by cholera.

    He was taken off the train for intensive treatment. At the Yaounde train station where the train finally stationed, there was total panic.

    The Minister of Public Health personally headed a medical team set up to provide medical assistance to all passengers that had been in contact with the patient.

    Each person was given a dose of the cholera preventive drug while all goods in the train were disinfected.

    The only issue of concern was raised when some Muslims currently fasting were reluctant to take the treatment.
