Cameroon: 30 killed in car accident

    It was a total carnage along the Douala-Yaounde highway in Cameroon on at about 9:30 am when thirty people lost their lives to a ghastly car accident. It was an ugly scene; once again thirty Cameroonians were dragged in to their graves because of a human error.

    Flesh and body parts of the victims were scattered on the tar and even the rescue team made up of security forces and the local population could not contain their emotions.

    Several hours after the disaster, the identities of most of the victims were still unknown more so as some bodies have been shattered beyond recognition; it was a horror.

    At approximately 1km to the Boumyebel tollgate, the bus attempted to overtake four heavy duty trucks.

    The driver succeeded in overtaking the first three but bumped into the third, a trailer with number plate LT TR 8511 R having four passengers on board. Three of the four persons died instantly, an indication of the intensity of the shock, while a majority of those in the bus also died instantly.

    Gendarmerie Officer, Francois Claude Messanga, and his men coordinated the rescue operation. With the aid of the local population they pulled out the lifeless bodies of the victims.

    The bodies were taken to the Pouma, Eseka and Yaounde Central Hospital mortuaries.

    Eleven of the more than forty passengers in the two vehicles were seriously injured. One passenger thankfully came out unhurt but as expected, the twenty-year-old is extremely traumatised to a point that he has not been able to give his name.

    It is worth noting that roads in Cameroon have increasingly become death-traps.
