Ghana's midfielder, Rahim Ayew, scored two goals to equalize the match in Bouake, Cote d'Ivoire and rescued Ghana from humiliation.

Ovidy Karuru opened the scoring for Zimbabwe with a header after just four minutes. That lead was doubled later in the first half thanks to Phillip Marufu.

Ayew, the eldest son of Ghana great Abedi Ayew 'Pele', then struck either side of half time to earn his side the draw.

Ghana finished the game with ten men after Ofosu Appiah was shown a second yellow card in stoppage time at the end of the match.

Zimbabwe's two first-half goals were contributed by Ovid Karuru and Phillip Marufu.
Democratic Republic of Congo scored twice in the second half to defeat Libya 2-0 in the other match with Dioko Kaluyituka striking from close range on 58 minutes and Bongeli Lofo converting a penalty soon after.

Zimbabwe will next play the Democratic Republic of Congo while Ghana take on Libya.
