Boy survives with no private parts, eyes
- A 10-year old boy is battling for his life at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre after surviving a malicious attack resulting in both his privates parts cut off and his eyes removed last week along the Malawi-Mozambique boarder at Bangula in Nsanje Suthern part of Malawi. According to the Southern Region police spokesperson Davie Chingwaru the boy Robin Misheck a Mozambican, met his fate on Wednesday last week when another Mozambican, Yesaya Biningu, tricked him to go and hunt mice in nearby bush. Malawi now has her first ever woman vice president. Joyce Banda was sworn in on Friday to take over the post in a ceremony held at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, Malawi - Banda was the first to be sworn in before President Mutharika took the oath of office administered by Chief Justice Lovemore Munlo.
The ceremony was attended by among other African leaders, Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe, Zambia's Rupiya Bwezani Banda, and Mozambique's Armando Guebuza.

Leonard Sichale, a suspect in the custody of Thyolo Police in southern part of Malawi, has been left to "decompose" in the hands of health officials. - This AfricaNews correspondent reports that when Sichale fell sick, he was taken to the Thyolo District Hospital. The law enforcers chained him to his bed to prevent him from escaping.
According to health officials, the suspect can hardly move from the bed due to his condition. Sichale, who is in hospital because of skin problems, is in police custody for allegedly stealing K 85,000 at butchery in Bvumbwe town.

The High court in Balantyre Friday granted bail to former president of the Republic of Malawi, Bakili Muluzi. - He was arrested on Sunday on allegations of that he has a plot of overthowing the current President Bingu wa Mutharika. Reading the ruling, that lasted for about an hour, Judge Josephy Manyungwa quashed the submission by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Wezi kayira that if Muluzi is granted bail there was likehood he could tamper with evidence and jeopardize investigations, which were still going on.

Buses that are evacuating Malawians who were living in South Africa has started arriving in Malawi. The government of Malawi has hired seven buses to evacuate Malawians who are living in South Africa following the xenophobic attacks. - Recent reports indicate that those attacks have claimed more than 50 lives and displaced more than 30, 000 people.

- When the national pass rate for the just released Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) is 33.93 percent, the pass rate for a prisoner is 38 percent. Of the 77 prisoners who sat for the examination, 29 passed with highest candidate scoring 16 points, he is Brian Phiri from Zomba prison. Malawi Prisons public Relation officer Tobia Nowa said the inmates have showed their commitment in transformation. - TB ravages Malawi prisons Felix Salaniponi, the Director of National Tuberculosis (TB) control program was Chichiri prison in Blantyre, where he said the situation regarding TB in the Malawi prisons is bad. Salinoponi said prison contribute to TB cases in the country by about 6 to 10 percent and that inside chichiri prison, each cell he visited had about 30 to 40 percent of inmates who are TB suspects. Salaniponi said the problem inside prisons was compounded by overcrowding, poor diet and lack of ventilation.
