BOTSWANA FOTBALL ASSOCIATION REAPPOINTS COACH

  1. VICTOR BAATWENG IN GABORONE, BOTSWANA
The football governing board in Botswana, Botswana Football Association (BFA) has announced the reappointment of Stanley Tshosane as the national team head coach until 2012. In a press briefing on Monday BFA told reporters that Tshosane has been selected to lead the national team to a possible participation in the 2012 African Cup of Nations (AFCON). Tshosane was appointed the head coach of Botswana’s national team affectionately known as ‘The Zebras’ among the locals after the sacking of Briton Colwyn Rowe for failing to take the team to the upcoming Angola 2010 AFCON.
Botswana has never qualified for finals of any tournament and it is yet to win the Confederation of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) tournament in which they bowed out in the semi finals late last month. Botswana beat Seychelles 2 -0 in the group stages only to be kicked out by the host Zimbabwe with 1 – 0 in an explosive semi final at the Barbourfields stadium.
Botswana national team has of late been experiencing poor results with some football experts blaming the governing board for neglecting the welfare of both the players and the coach which they said contributed to the negative outcome yielded by players during the games.
After failing to qualify for the Angola AFCON 2010 FIFA World cup in South Africa and with the COSAFA tournament having passed Botswana is now waiting for the preliminary qualifying games for the 2012 AFCON and 2014 world cup to bid their luck one more time. However Botswana shall bank much on its youthful squad which formed part of the national under-23 team which won the four nations tournament in China last year. The team was under the guardianship of Botswana’s export to South Africa David Bright who last year parted ways with ABSA premier league side Capetown Santos for Mvela league side Bay United at the beginning of this season. Bright has since offered assistance where possible in building his national team adding that “Tshosane need support from everyone”.
