An Ethiopian athlete, Meseret Defar, broke the women's world indoor 5,000 metres record on Wednesday when she clocked 14 minutes 24.37 seconds at the DN Galan meeting. She finished the race with a last lap of 30.3 seconds to mark an auspicious return to Stockholm. Defar narrowly failed to break Dibaba's outdoor 5,000 mark in her last appearance in the Swedish capital, according to Reuters

It was her first indoor 5,000 race since 2004 when she won the Olympic title.
Australia's Olympic pole vault champion Steve Hooker ended his indoor campaign with his fifth victory in as many competitions. Hooker cleared 5.86 metres before failing at six metres.
