Angola: Portuguese firm to establish pay TV

    A Portuguese firm – Zon Multimedia is reported to be making plans to launch pay television services in Angola.

    The oil rich country has of late attracted several investors and is set to host the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations.

    Zon Multimedia however, did not give more details to the television project in its statement.

    A Reuters report quoted the firm as saying that the project was still in its preliminary stage and that the progress would also depend on the approval by the Angolan government.

    The report further said that the pay television project in the southern African country,would be launched in partnership with a company controlled by Isabel dos Santos, the daughter of Angola President Jose Eduardo dos Santos.

    Angola suffered a civil war which destroyed most of its important infrastructure but the country has made a tremendous development.

    The southern African nation was a Portuguese overseas territory from the 16th century to 1975.

    Currently it is the second-largest petroleum and diamond producer in sub-Saharan Africa.
