Angola 2010: Egypt, Nigeria in final eight

    Reigning champions and six-time winners Egypt have made it to the final eight of the African Cup of Nations in Angola along side Nigeria. The Pharaohs maintained their perfect record at the tournament when they beat Benin 2-0 in their final Group C game on Wednesday.

    Egypt beat Nigeria, Mozambique and Benin to keep their hopes of gunning an unprecedented third title in a row. Nigeria went through with a 3-0 win over Mozambique who were sent packing along with Benin.

    Defender Ahmed Al Muhammadi opened the scoring for Egypt with a long-range cross that caught Yoann Djidonou off guard and Ahmed Raouf doubled the tally on 23 minutes, slotting home after a superb save by the Benin keeper, reported Reuters.

    Forward Peter Odemwingie scored twice to help Nigeria to a 3-0 win over Mozambique and a place in the African Nations Cup quarter-finals.

    The Russian-based striker scored either side of halftime as the Super Eagles, who began the tournament with a 3-1 defeat by champions Egypt, made sure of a top-two finish in Group C.

    Mozambique, who have taken part in the tournament five times without mustering a win, finished with a single point from their opening draw with Benin.
